Book Review: Cleo McDougal Regrets Nothing by Alison Winn Scott

Wow! This book took me by surprise! This book kept popping up on my Goodreads Recommended and I finally decided to give it a chance. I'm glad I did because this book is an absolute delight. Cleo McDougal Regrets Nothing tells the story of Cleo McDougal, a rising poltical star in the senate and single mom with hopes to run for president in the near future. However, her dreams are quickly bashed when a slanderous article is pulished online. The author is a former high school friend. This article sends Cleo on a journey of making amends for her past regrets in order to restore her reputation. Forcing her to move face her past and helping her to move towards the future.

Let me make one thing clear: If I could vote for Cleo McDougal for President, I would. I love her. She is amazing and an inspiration to all. Cleo McDougal is the type of women who is ambitious, isn't afraid of taking on a challenge, and won't take crap from anyone. She isn't the type of politican taking bribes but actively wants to make a real difference in the world and she care a lot about helping women. I love the way she constantly reminds her assistant to stop saying sorry. Cleo is also tried of politicans who claim to be an "ally to women" despite having a staff where 95% of the workers are white males.

She is by no means perfect. Despite her work ethic and her career ambitions, she has a hard time relating to her teenage son who constantly mortify by her existance and is needing her less & less. She also deals with the guilt of being a working single mom. She loves her son more than anything but she also loves her career and she admittedly can't give him everything. I love the way Scott balances out this dynamic in Cleo's character. It made Cleo seem more relateable and more real as a character. She has a lot of regrets when it comes to her personal life and how she has handle things with her family. She does what she can to fix her relationships with them and is honestly trying to better herslf as a person.

Cleo McDougal is the shinning star of this book. She alone makes the book worthwhile to read. This book was not perfect by any means ( I felt like some of the side characters needed some more dept and demension) but I think Alison Winn Scott did an amazing job overall. This book is hilarious and extremely fun to read. Cleo was a amazing protagnist and the arc of her story truly comes full circle by the end of the book. Overall, this is a great book and I highly recommend reading this book. A solid 4 out of 5 stars for me.
