Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover
"Hearts don't have bones. They can't actually break." -Heart Bones, Colleen Hoover
I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! When it comes to Colleen Hoover, I either love her books or I kind of hate them. But I LOVE THIS FREAKING BOOK. This book hit me straight in the feels. I just finished this book and I am now just a mess of emotions that is struggling to write this review but let me make one thing clear: Heart Bones is one of the best books I have read this year and I loved reading every single second of it. An easy 5 out of 5 stars.
Heart Bones follows the story of Beyah. For her entire life, Beyah has only seen the worst in people. An addict for a mother. A absent and distant father. Beyah has learned that she is on her own. However, a few months until her new life and future, Beyah's life turns upside down and she has no choice but to relocate to the pennisula of Texas and a father she barely knows. Her plan is lay low and let the summer slip by until she leaves for school. That is until she meets Samson, the rich boy who lives next door. Samson is mysterious, secretive, and Beyah can't help but feel drawn to him. What was suppose to be a short, summer fling leads to something more.
I love this book. Beyah is the best. She is a fighter and survivor. She doesn't take bullshit from anyone and will call out other people for it. She has been through a lot and at the beginning of the book, she is very jaded and guarded of other people but she also has a heart of gold. By the end of the book, she has learned to open up and has gain so much confidence. Samson was also a great character. I love him. He comes off a this guarded and secretive person but like Beyah, he opens up. He was so supportive and caring of Beyah. He always did whatever he could for her and I really appreciated him for that.
I loved all the characters in fact. This book has a great cast of characters. Beyah's dad was an interesting character. He loves Beyah and wants to be a part of her life but he feels distant from her. It was really great to see their relationship to grow. All the other characters were great as well. They were all so funny and caring. I wish we could have seen more of them.
I also think Heart Bones is one of Colleen Hoover's best books. This book deals with a lot of dark topics but this book also feel hopeful and heartwarming. My only problem with this book was it was so SHORT (barely 300 pages long). Nevertheless, I love this book. If I could give this book all the stars in the galaxy, I would. This book is amazing and everyone should read it.
