Book Review: Hunted by Meghan Spooner
I really like this book. Before Hunted, I never really like any of Meagan Spooner's books before. I tried reading her Starbound Series with Amie Kaufman and I couldn't even get past the 1st chapter because of how boring it was. However, I really like Hunted. Like this is one of the best Beauty and the Beast retellings I have ever read in my life.
Hunted takes place in Medival Russia where Yeva, our protagnist, is a huntress struggling to survive the ice cold. When her father disappears, Yeva leaves to track him down and bring him home. However, she gets more than what she bargained for and discovers a whole world filled with magical creatures. Yeva is determined to return home but she is also caught in the trall of this fantastical world and won't leave until she puts an end to this curse once and for all.
This book is beautiful. The writing is gorgeous and is simply poetic. It also really brings alive this magical world and the story. This book was addicting to read and haunted my thoughts for days on end after I finished it. I love the story it tells. The really curse of this book is wanting. Wanting for more but never quite sure what it is you want.
The characters in this book were also really something else. Yeva is a great protagnist and I love how her relationship with the beast is slow burned and more of a friendship. I also really like Yeva's sisters, specifically Asenka. I really like her and I wish we could have spend more time with her and Solmir (another of my favorite characters). My only complaint about the book is the cover. No offense to the artist but it is so unorginal.
Overall, I really like Hunted. It's beautifully written and I love the setting of Medival Russia as well as all the characters. I give Hunted by Meagan Spooner a sold 4 out of 5 stars. If you are in the market for a Beauty and the Beast retelling, I highly recommend this book.
