Emily In Paris Does Not Deserve a Season 2
I cannot put to words how awful this show is. I know that is usually a book review blog but I have to say this. Because otherwise I will exploded. This is one of the worst tv shows I have ever seen. It's just as bad as the last season of Game of Thrones. And there is no way in the word does this TV show deserve a second season.
Here are 3 Reason Why Emily in Paris Should be Cancelled.
1. Emily is a Horrible Protagnist.
Emily is so annoying. It hurts both my eyes and I literally had to skip every scene of hers because of how cringey she is as a character. Darren Star, the creator of this show, also created Sex & the City. I feel like they were trying to channel some Carrie vibes through her. But I feel like that only made her worst. Emily spends most of the show trying to force the French to be more like her. A white american girl. I literally wanted to tear out my eyeballs when I saw her complaining about work started at 10 am instead of 8am. Girl, why are you complaining?! That's literally my dream. Emily gives litttle to no effort in trying to adapt to her environment. She goes to 1 french class and doesn't put in any effort in trying to learn about the French culture. She doesn't even like the food. So why the fuck is she in Paris? My guess is for the instagram pics.
Emily is also terrible at her job. There's no way in the real world would any company in any part of the world accept her level of incompentance. I get that she is unexperience but she is so unprofessional and her inability to take her job seriously is astonding. HR should fire her. Like really.
I also hate the plot twist of this season. Congratulations, Emily. Not only are you super annoying, terrible at your job, but you are also a cheater. I cannot believe this show went for this type of twist. It's 2020 and I'm not going to pretend it's okay for you to be sleeping with another girl's boyfriend. Because it's not.
2. Offensive Stereotypes
If know anything about me, you know how I feel about tokenism and racial stereotypes. Well, this show is full of them. I hate it!!! I hate it!!! Words cannot describe how much I hate this. The side characters (and of course, they're the side characters) are all walking stereotypes of their race and sexuality. The Gay guy is sassy and pretty much that's it. The Chinese girl makes jokes about being Chinese. Wow! It's not like this show doesn't have competent writers. Oh, wait! They do. However, for some reason, they can't write 3-demensional characters with real personalities.
Also, I hate how this show portrays French People. And I'm not even French nor have I ever been to France. But wow! It's like the creators hate France. French people cannot be this mean. And the only reason they are in this show is because they have to put up with a character like Emily.
3. Insulting the Immigration Experience
I am the daughter of immigrants and I hate how this show portrays the immigration experience. When you're an immigrant, it's all about assimaltion. You learn the culture. You learn the language. You do this because it gives you the best chance of succeeding. I see this all the time in the US. People from all other countries come to US and they try their damn hardest to fit. My own parents only wanted me to learn English because they didn't want me to have an accent.
Yet here is this white girl living in a huge Parisian apartment, working at a amazing marketing agency, and she still demands that world revolve around her wants and needs. Honey, no. It's a privilege to live in a city like Paris and it's such as waste that it goes to annoying white girls like Emily.
Overall, this show is terrible. It really is. If Netfelix renews this show, I now know that golden age of Television is dead. The only good thing about is the escapism that this show provides. Besides that, it's a show about a whiney and annoying white American girl trying to make France more American. Maybe that's what suppose to make this show funny but it only turned this show into a cringefest. It's terrible and I genuinely think the world is better off with this show getting cancelled.
